A White Army (anti-communist) platoon, led by the devious general Denikin, lays siege to a southern city during the civil war. Refusing to be trapped -- and with some important business elsewhere -- communist cadre Zavarzin (the dynamic Igor Savkin) leads a ragtag group of resisters, including a nurse and a disguised White Army officer, in a daring escape attempt involving rolling machine gun carts.
